Work packages

Five areas of action (work packages) will be developed during the project. This will build on existing initiatives, making use of information provided by diabetes associations and other stakeholders.
The outcomes of work packages contribute to prevention of serious, costly complications and improved quality of life of children and adolescents with diabetes and their carers.

Strenghten the knowledge base regarding the status of pediatric and adolescent diabetes and related care in the EU

The objective of work package 1 is to collect data to establish an overview of and develop conclusions on the number of children and adolescents affected by diabetes and existing relevant care programs and guidelines in Europe. The following tasks will be carried out in order to work towards the specific objective and related deliverables:
♦ number of children and adolescents with diabetes per Member state and their diabetes complications ♦ existing national care programmes adressing children and adolescents with diabetes
(including secondary prevention programs)
♦ existing treatment guidelines for pediatric and adolescent diabetes ♦ Analyse data leading to clear conclusions: identification of trends, possible relation between existing
programmes and complications, what are the data gaps.
♦ Compile information and conclusions into EU report ♦ feed into overall dissemination strategy: report to be used for policy development and existing
EU and WHO information sources.

The work package Leader (University Hopsital Motol/ CZ) and his work group will be responsible for publishing a final report which includes conclusions on status of diabetes in children and adolescents and related prevention and care programs.
